MERCER COUNTY, April 6  — The Annual 200 Club of Mercer County Luncheon will be held on Wednesday, June 10th, at 11:30am at the Mercer Oaks Golf Course Clubhouse in West Windsor.  This year’s luncheon will be dedicated to the memory of Trenton Firefighter Manny Rivera who died in the line of duty saving another.

The 200 Club will also present a Valor Award – the highest honor bestowed by the organization – posthumously to Trenton Firefighter Manny Riveras’ family and fellow firefighters.

Trenton firefighter Manny Rivera was hurt rescuing a man from a burning building in February and died from his injuries March 31. Rivera had been in a coma since he collapsed at the scene that night. He had taken off his mask to urge a man who was hanging by his fingers from a window to move onto a ladder and to safety. “By giving his life to save that of another, Firefighter Rivera made the ultimate sacrifice,” Fire Director Richard Laird said yesterday. Rivera was 42 years old, and married with 5 children.

“We are honored to focus this year’s luncheon on the life and work of Manny Rivera, a 14-year veteran of the Trenton fire department,” states Cathy Frank-White, President of the 200 Club of Mercer County. “I believe there is a ground swell of support for all the dedicated law enforcement, fire and rescue organizations in Mercer County. These men and women play an integral role for the security and safety in our community,” Frank-White continues.

The 200 Club of Mercer County is one of several hundred associations nationwide dedicated to providing financial assistance to the families of our public safety and rescue personnel who are killed in the line of duty. This includes the police officers (state, county, and municipal), correction officers, fire fighters, and rescue squad technicians of Mercer County.

Established in 1979, The 200 Club of Mercer County has provided funds to a multitude of families. Becoming a member of the 200 Club of Mercer County will support an honorable cause at a time when the families of these dedicated and brave individuals need it most.

The luncheon is open to the public and costs $40 per person, or $400 for table of 10. Guest speaker will be Scott Loh, Director of the Dempster Fire Training Academy.  Attendees who apply for membership will get the luncheon as part of their application cost. Membership is $200 and is tax deductible to the extent permitted by law. The 200 Club of Mercer County is a tax-exempt charity under section 501(c)(3).
